Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Spurs extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

Everton remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing striker's instinct

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.

What next for both teams?

Everton: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: Spurs go to Newcastle's ground on late October for their next round Carabao Cup match against the Magpies.
