'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews clash with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the dramatic closing stages of his team's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. In the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory earned a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's volley from about way out going in via the crossbar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right defensive wing after they changed tactics. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they are adept at dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It takes a tough attitude and concentration just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was likely a slightly green going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without serious challenge. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a small coach driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to interact with the teammates but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
