In a surprising crossover event that challenges conventional expectations, Ubisoft has unveiled an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, including free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Disclosed

According to the authorized announcement, "An unusual encounter draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh mission, where whispers of prohibited ceremonies and monstrous transformations reverberate through the shadows." The plot features a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a hidden cult.

The mission focuses on "peculiar tests and a fearsome adversary" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Changes

The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser ends with a dramatic sequence showing a character, presumably the captive, changing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Items and Extra Material

Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an unique katana together with several objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive weapons
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Addition

This patch also introduces the game's newest free story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap characteristic techniques: Naoe debuts a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers

This marks scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series earlier featured a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that unmistakably referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
